Since ancient times, Jinling has been renowned for its literary grandeur, where talented minds gather amid the fragrance of translation. On July 21, the 7th International Sinologists Conference on Translating Chinese Literature, hosted by the China Writers Association and the Nanjing Municipal People's Government, was launched in Nanjing, Jiangsu. 39 sinologists from 31 countries and 39 Chinese writers gathered together to discuss new trends of Chinese literature and jointly witness new achievements in literary exchanges between China and foreign countries.

On the afternoon of July 22, the urban cultural study tour held concurrently with the 7th International Sinologists Conference on Translating Chinese Literature concluded successfully at the Nanjing World Literature Hall. The tour attracted numerous sinologists from countries including the United Kingdom, Spain, and Uruguay, as well as Chinese writers and many young literature enthusiasts. Through various formats such as the themed salon “2025 Literary Diversity and Urban Sustainable Development”, “Literature Rendezvous in Nanjing: Meeting the 2025 Nanjing International Writers in Residence”, and intangible cultural heritage experiences, the event further deepened mutual learning among civilizations and strongly promoted the international dissemination of Chinese literature.

During the guest sharing session, Bi Feiyu, Chinese contemporary novelist and president of the Jiangsu Provincial Writers Association, expressed his deep affection for Nanjing by sharing his stories with the city, stating that it is Nanjing’s richness, openness, and gentleness that have shaped writers living there in entirely unique ways. British translator Nicky Harman pointed out that one important responsibility of translators is to introduce translated works of Chinese literature, especially contemporary poetry, to readers in the English-speaking world.

Nanjing International Writers Residency was officially launched in 2019 and has been held for six sessions to date. Each year, 4 to 6 international writers are selected to spend about one month experiencing the daily life in Nanjing, investigating the city’s literary resources, personally experiencing its cultural heritage and rich literary atmosphere, and engaging in creative exchanges. As of 2024, it received applications from more than 300 international writers from UNESCO Cities of Literature around the world, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, South Africa, Spain, South Korea, and Iceland. Among them, 36 international writers lived in Nanjing and left behind outstanding works for the city. In 2025, 30 outstanding works will be selected from more than 90 pieces created by global resident writers for publication in the work collection of "Literature Rendezvous in Nanjing: Meeting the Nanjing International Writers in Residence".
